What difference do all these different versions make?

The envmap is normally made of a photo flipped upside down, usually of a landscape. The more shine you apply to an object the more chrome like it appears and the more this envmap is obvious.

A good envmap will also change the amount of shine. Some give a nice matte sheen, somehighlight shadows and some are shiny shiny. I'll take some pics in the sim later.

So really not something that should be played with.

That should remain standard otherwise developers are making stuff for goalposts that are being shifted.

Trouble then with complaining a shine or metal looks wrong and findingout these base files have been changed.

There is too much playing arround with things without the consequences being considered.

So download and 'improvement' for one aircraft and everything in the sim could be changed.

Put it another way.....these things could change the way stuff I put up looks, so in effect changing my work without my permission.

i can agree with that on one level - that being that some envmaps are rubbish and can add or remove a lot of shine with unwanted effects for painters and modellers.

That said a good envmap makes a nice improvement throughout the sim in my opinion.

Goodness knows what envmap it is. The default map in my eyes looks a little flat. Many of them increase the range mid-tones nicely and thus make the sim look that bit more real.

Sky textures have lighting colours which also make a big difference, but a new envmap is a good start.

Well hopefully if there is a good one that can be a standard.....but some standard is needed or else it could mess up a lot of stuff.

My TFT FS looks completely different to my CRT. :worried:

Some of these changes will be an idividual making it look better when perhaps it's his own monitor at fault not FS.
