When BR moved the Class 50s from the LM Region to the Western the WR naturally (being the WR.....) had to give them names, and chose to use the Warship names from the previous diesel-hydraulic Class 42-43s. But also being the Western Region they had to do at least one in their own green colour scheme and 5007 was it. They did wait for quite some time to do this though, it was well into the late 70s before '07' became Sir Edward.

Ahh now then !, proper Warships ( 42-43), now your talking my language LOL.

Actually l think you'll find 007 was renamed in the mid 80s, certainly after my interests changed from chuff chuffs to more interesting things !, three kids later and a huge mortgage l wonder if that was such a good move .

I still think they should have choosen another class, it broke a run of famous warship names.
