latest update.

i installed a n rfactor addon to test and as usual it complained abotu delayed right.

THe only thing is the files were perfectly fine. They worked fine.

what is it that this is corrupting.

A workaround would be to disable Write Caching in Device Manager (Select Disk Drives, select the actual drive, select Policies, uncheck the Enable Write Caching box).

This will almost certainly stop the error, but may make disk performance unacceptably slow. Nothing to lose in giving it a try though.

i ran chdisk and it found bad sectors. I thought i had done it.

anyway it fixed them restarted and it still complains but still no side effect.

Is your HD failing? Just curious. I get that every now and then, but that's because I have FS on an extenral HD (Firewire, I don't have USB 2.0) and sometimes the drive locks up when I'm trnasfering files or installing new ones and have to reboot the drive.

If your getting bad sectors on a disc... get a new one and get your data off asap. Bad sectors mean that the disk has begun to fail. :shock:

The delayed write might be failing first time, and then succeeding when it tries again.

The failures are not a good sign. Bad sector repairs are usually just moving the data to good sectors and marking the bad ones as "do not use".

And if you run chkdsk again and there still bad sectors, then it is just getting worse.

I have run manufacturer's diagnostic programs on disks (they take a long time). Some cure the problem, others give you an error message to use when asking for warranty replacement (is yours still in warranty?).

Whatever, follow Ben's advice and get your data on to some other medium.

thanks to my computer skills making the computer go tits up again i had to reinstall fs.

weirdly since i have not any delayed write failures.

Its not really wierd at all John, If the block has been marked as bad, when the computer is writing to the idsk it won't use that block... its a matter of time.

Please please please

save some money for a new drive and in the mean time use your PC sparingly.... if I had a penny etc etc

The data in your existing machine is FAR more valuable to you than the cost of the very finest machine available. Please get it all backed up somewhere before the pending disaster happens...Only then can you sit back and wait till you can afford to buy your new machine
