Look at the spray off the aircraft. The plane cleared the boat by less than 10 feet and took off less than 100 feet short of it. The telephoto compression makes the plane look bigger and closer when it lands and is coming at them, but when it takes off, it's as close as it looks, and looking at the end of the clip makes that clear.

BTW, the entire boat was lightweight plastic, including the engine. They used a second boat for the close-ups with a "real" engine, but the boat in the water with the plane would not have done any damage had they hit it.
