I thought the government said back along we would not be getting these,
I can not understand spending all the money just because they are supersonic, the Harrier proved it's worth back in 1982 in the Falklands and that was not supersonic,
Times have changed, it is rare for dogfights any more but who am I to say
Just my two pennies,
Roger.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

It's not 'just because they're supersonic' they also carry more, further, with more advanced sensors and less chance of being detected by radar. By your logic we may as well have stuck with the Seafire.dodger wrote:I thought the government said back along we would not be getting these,

I wonder whether or not they may regret this purchase. It seems to be a "Jack of all trades, master of none", and that cannot be good in the long run. I think our Government (Ottawa) is looking twice at the proposed purchase.
Personally for us I would rather see the Super Hornet, the military bosses used to always rattle on that due to our climate and vast areas of patrol Canada needed twin engine aircraft. At least the Hornet is a proven commodity. Politicians of course know more than military chiefs.

I can't comment on this for legal reasons. It's an ongoing case down here, and billions of dollars are at stake.
Also, if the independents win the election, they might cancel the contract.

Taking into consideration the fact that the a/c failed to meet its spec in several parameters it could end up as lemon. We are going for the B version which carries less Wpns and Fuel and is more complex than the other versions. I think Maintenance will be a nightmare, along the the lines of the EE Lightning. Apart from that I think its a pretty ugly looking thing!!!!!!
