Hmm.. with your comments onboard Paul.. I've looked in 'near' folders and guess what.. Missions has turned up. There's an odd folder in the root called Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This came about when I downloaded and ran an installer for a freeware Bell 206 and I saw no reason at the time to delete it because all the helicopters bits are in there.. in the correct directory tree. Also.. Missions is in there Can't see how that happened but at least I know it wasn't removed by an uninstaller
You need to [Right-Click] the link,
and [SAVE AS] to the root of your fsx folder, (same folder as fsx.exe).
[Rename] it from .txt to .bat
[Double-click] it to run.
It'll generate a log file named !_DirList_FSX_Folder_Tree.log
On Vista/W7/W8 default settings
it's very easy in Windows Explorer, (file manager)
to select and accidentally drag a folder to another location
just by lingering your mouse for too long over a folder.
Yes.. I did that exactly as you described. However.. there's no log file. I've entered that log name into search and it's returned a zero Anywho.. through your suggestion, the errant folder has been found so I ran your batch then went and found the folder The end result was the same

I tested your batch file Paul and it worked perfectly for me.
Would that file run in any folder structure and not just FSX? I can see a use for that in a number of instances where you want to make sure nothing went awry. I have 'lost' folders before now exactly as you describe above, hover too long over another folder and whoosh it's moved!
Yes, the batch file will work on any folder's subtree.
It's a tweaked version of one I'd created to solve a similar problem.
It has additional capabilities, (currently 'commented out') -
- List all the files & folders, with ownership, and filedate/time info. (Be aware - this may take a while).
- List all the folders/paths, (a no-frills text listing).
Larry.. where did the log files show.. in the FSX root directory?? I did exactly as Paul said.. save as.. rename to bat.. double click and the batch file ran spitting out a text box with the text I posted above. However.. there are no log files associatied with it anywhere on my pc I don't think SpyHunter would have grabbed them as it would have come up with an exception and it didn't Never mind.. glad it worked for you
Hi Dave, yes the log file showed up in the FSX root directory alongside the .bat file.
Are you sure you changed the file name from '!_DirList_FSX_Folder_Tree-DOT-txt' to '!_DirList_FSX_Folder_Tree-DOT-bat'? (Obviously the '-DOT-' should be '.', I just did it that way so the forum software didn't get confused).
Yes mate. I double clicked the renamed .bat file which ran then kicked out a txt box (above). No log files present in the FSX root dir I'll run it again to see what happens.
Right.. looking at the file.. it has a .bat extension but when I look at it's properties/Details.. it shows it as .bat.txt I can't get rid of the .txt extension
