Re: FSX Crashing
That frame rate oddity is normal FSX behaviour Nigel. Unlimited will usually give higher frame rates, but you may be more prone to get scenery blurries, especially in fast aircraft. All depends on PC spec and other FSX settings of course.

Re: FSX Crashing
You don't say if the computer gets a BSOD, or whether its just FSX that closes down. My recent troubles were with W8.1, but earlier this year my W7 system kept crashing & I looked in the failure codes in Windows Log & it kept telling me that I had a Kernel power problem. I eventually changed the PSU & that seemed to cure it, so I probably had one voltage rail dropping out, possibly a worn out (dried out) capacitor. Could also be an overtemp problem - have you cleaned it out recently?

Hi Nigel,
sorry to hear of your difficulties
Certain netframe work and c++ redistributable are required for msfs .
when i installed fsx the first time years ago the prog wouldn't start from the short cut icon. The error message said the program was not configured correctly. After hours of research i came to the conclusion that the c++ redistributable on the fsx disk was corrupt or corrupted my current install of c++. Uninstalled it, downloaded c++ from ms installed it, clicked on the shortcut an fsx started up.
i of course had c++ installed for my fs9 install and all was working fine.

Re: FSX Crashing
Hello Nigel,
I had this problem with FSX and did all the reinstall of various bits with no success. In the end I managed to find a cure in the setting of Affinity Mask in the FSX.cfg file. I don't know how it got set but FSX was using all 4 cores of my i5. When I used the mask to set it to 3 cores all became sweetness and light (didn't even notice a frame rate drop).
I'm guessing that another process was trying to get some CPU time and FSX wouldn't give way with the result that Windoze couldn't cope and just locked up. I thought there was a good explanation (with a table) of affinity mask in CBFSIM but haven't managed to search it out. Googling 'fsx affinity mask' gets plenty though - even a calculator on flight sim.com
YMMV but HTH, Paul

It's not a 'bird', it's an aeroplane or an aircraft

Re: FSX Crashing
I'm back!!
Just to bring yoiu all up to date, I had Win7 re-installed with no updates at all (not on internet at home so now decided to leave it as it is) installed FSX and the only add-ons that I have REX - FTX England Wales Scotland as well as FTX Global then Just Flights Traffic 360 Setup:
i5 processor
Nvidia G-Force GTX760
8Gb RAM
FSX Running on seperate hard drive (thanks to Bens' help)
Just as an experiment set up scenery to max settings - ai-traffic 7% road traffic boats etc 30% Monitor set at 1920X1080 - at Heathrow taxiing to R/W frame rates were 18 -32fps no stuttering and no CTD this time, will still experiment with settings and also cfg but would like to thank all of you for your valuable inputs and help.
Kind regards
Nigel
Hi Paul Many thanks, I did not know of that but will certainly take a look at it and try it, TBH I have not tweaked my fsx.cfg file apart from adding HIGHMEMFIX=1 as previously found that there was very little improvement in my old setup after I spent the whole day tweaking this and altering that ending up with very little time flying at the end of it all!!I had this problem with FSX and did all the reinstall of various bits with no success. Re: FSX Crashing
I used to have regular CTD's on FSX
Like you i had England,Scotland scenery and Traffic 360
The only way I managed to stop my CTD's after lots of tweaking and reinstalling was to delete Traffic 360
No more CTDs
I now use World of AI traffic and no problems

Many thanks for the information I had not thought about that as now looking back I am sure that I did not have any CTD before installing Traffic 360

I am just running FSX with the same settings as I had before having the computer upgraded and still have the CTD's. The only other AI traffic I have from the past is Ultimate Traffic for FS9+FSX but not actually sure how good it is on FSX. I assume the World of AI Traffic is the free-ware one from FTX? If so will have to try and get that when I am over at my sons house on Sunday.
Late Edit: Just had a look for World of AI Traffic, unfortunately as it appears to be quite a few downloads I won't have the time to do it when at Sunny Donny, if any-one else knows of any AI Packages that do not take any length of time to download please let me know as I do not have internet at home. Many thanks in advance.
Nigel.

Re: FSX Crashing
Yes nigel there are loads of downloads but they only take appx 30 seconds for each each airline that you choose and with the installer its a very easy simple process for those like me who are only able to turn on the PC and hope it works.
I only selected Airlines that i'm likely to interact with in the Virtual Airline.
My next mission will be to try and move away from the modern Aircraft and get some classics into AI.
Good Luck
Geoff
