AI Traffic Files

Post by speedbird591 »

Having now been given the complete set of World of AI traffic, I've been giving some thought to installing it. I'm not a stranger to WoAI or to AI but have never had 523 traffic files installed before! At the moment I have about 50 traffic BGLs, mostly WoAI but also some custom ones. The majority of the files are in the usual folder - scenery/world/scenery (this is P3D by the way, but should be the same as FSX).

What I want to do, to keep things tidy, is to put all of the WoAI traffic files into a separate folder so I know where they are. I'm pretty sure that they can be in any folder that has been activated in the scenery config, such as Addon Scenery and some of my AI is in sub-folders within Addon Scenery and work correctly.

So to test the folder, I've installed two new WoAI packages, converted them into FSX using AI Flightplanner, and tested them in the scenery/world/scenery folder and they show up fine. But when I put them anywhere else, either in a sub-folder or directly into the Addon Scenery folder, they don't show up - even alongside other traffic bgl files which are showing. Which suggests it may be something specific to WoAI :dunno:

If I can't figure it out I'll just install them directly into the main folder - at least they're easily identified as WoAI - but it would be nice if I could keep it neater.

Has anybody successfully put WoAI into a separate folder in FSX and how did you do it, please?

Ian :)

I have them in FSX/Add On Scenery/2000s Traffic/Scenery and no problem. You do need the Scenery folder in your created Traffic folder though.

Traffic files can go in any active scenery area. I have several areas for different traffic and position them at the bottom of the scenery list so that they can be enabled/disabled easily:

Yup.. that's how I had em in FS9. I only have 1 aircraft traffic file (plus the default) in FSX so it's not a problem. Birmingham gets traffic and nowhere else

Thank you very much gentlemen. All sorted now

Everybody gets a gold star. Nigel for reminding me to create a scenery folder within my traffic folder, George for showing me where to put the files in the scenery list and an anonymous contributor who came in by PM and made the clever suggestion of making a folder outside of FS so that it can be used by both sims.

And Dave also gets a gold star just for showing up - and a bonus tick for mentioning FS9

What would I do without you all? :$

Ian

Another suggestion is to put all of your AI aircraft in a folder outside of FSX ;)

In fact I have five extra folders of aircraft outside of Simobjects.

That's a good idea, George. I already have them in a separate folder but if I move them outside of the sim then the whole AI package is independent. It will be handy for re-installing. Thanks, I'll do that.

That sounds interesting. How does one go about that? i.e. how does the Sim know where to find them?

I'm cautious of answering in case I've misread something again 8)

You can put your AI aircraft wherever you want them Nige.. as long as you tell FSX where to find em. You do this by adding a suitable line in the FSX.cfg. Ian posted a similar question recently and the answers are in that thread :)
