Rog..

I wouldn't think that the 2004 helicopter settings would carry over to FSX mate. It's simply that the helicopter 'engine' (flight engine that is) was comparatively poor in 2004 where as it's been sorted in FSX.. sorted that is if you have either SP2 or ACC installed.. it was still a tw@t prior to that

Now.. who had the payware Gib and are they going to post a couple of shots for us *-)

There is some skill involved of course mate and to fly one accurately still demands a fair bit of effort though I guess you can say that about most things :) I had the Virtavia Seaking up a couple of times this morning as well as Rick's Sycamore as it happens. I've just installed the ACG RAF Marham and always find it's nice to see what you have by flying around it in a helicopter rather than slewing everywhere. I've populated it with Victors, Canberras and GR1's and I have to say, it's a rather nice piece of scenery :)

Hi Dave,

Off topic, this link has the Wessex, http://www.aviationmuseum.eu/World/Euro ... Museum.htm

I am not to far from here and walking around this Wessex it surprising how big she is and a couple of weeks ago we had the RAF Air Sea Rescue Seaking here as a lad got stuck out on the mud in the river Medway, it landed just down the road from me to drop him off for the Ambulance and i got down near it just in time to see it take off and by jolly i had not realised just how loud the Seaking is!

No pictures as it was dark.

I think i need to get out more!

Roger.

There's never enough time to get out more mate  Yes.. the Wessex is surprisingly big isn't it. We used to carry one at sea on our County Class Destroyers and 'County's' being what they are with the hangar door on the side of the hangar, the wafu's had a fair bit of hassle shoe-horning it in. On HMS Blake, we carried 4 Seaking's in our garage on the back. Just goes to show how big Blake was to have a hangar big enough to fit 4 Seaking's in! :-O

Dave,

For the life of me I cannot find my scans of my Dad's slides from Gib, which is odd as I spent hours looking at most of them when we modeled the Ark, my folks are coming out for some winter sun next month, I'll get him to bring the slides then if I cannot find them.

In the mean time you mentioned the County Classes having Wessex's on board and having to push the Cab down the port side to the Hangar door. My old man was on the Glamorgan Flt in 1970'71, here are a few shots from what he called the "Deployment of his Career" as she followed the Eagle around the world. On the point of trying to squeeze the Helicopter down the side of the deck he almost came a cropper entering Sydney harbour when they were moving the cab into the hangar, the Flt Deck Tiff told the Officer of the Watch to make no hard turns, however as he was pushing the tail on what he called that awkward last angel into the hangar the ship lurched hard to starboard and he fell backwards and was caught from going over board by a tiny hook on the tail wheel as a number of his oppos rushed to grab him, all rushed towards him apart from the Tiff who ran to the bridge to give the Officer of the Watch an ear full who apparently looked rather sheepish knowing he had clearly messed up!

Bit out of focus, but shows the small gap to access the Hangar.

Getting ready to launch the ships Flt, my Dad is the one in the Blue overalls sporting his "onboard beard"

"00 - Double Nuts" with Eagle and the RFA to the stern.

The tight squeeze once she was inside the hangar. As he said if he was on board in '82 he probably would not have made it, the ships company did any amazing job to save her after that Exocet, but with a terrible price.

He left the ship in Jamaica and I thought a few here on his Forum would appreciate this picture of his ride home.. :)

Hi again Fraser :hello: , I often wondered who featured in that photo, thanks for divulging. ;)
Well this is embarrassing. I thought the pic was a pic of a young Fraser in the cab of a Class 47 locomotive. Brian
Brian!

It was out of the side of an 824 Sqn Seaking.

Lol, funny you should say that however.... As I did like the Class 47's but was more of a Class 50 fan myself especially as they were named with such great names as "Dreadnaught" "Royal Oak" "Invincible" "Lion" "Tiger" "Victorious" "Ark Royal" etc etc... mind you my favourite was '007' when she was repainted in Brunswick Green and renamed "Sir Edward Elgar", I think I have the '00' gauge model in the loft back in Cornwall somewhere, come to think of it that would look good in my office at work! :)

Cheers,

Fraser.

Hi Fraser :hello:

Nice shots mate and thanks for posting. It shows just how tight a squeeze it was to get a Wessex tucked in bed :) I should have loads of shots but alas, my ex-wife binned every phot in the house before I could rescue them :|

 The stenciling under the window frame should have told me that I wasn't looking at BR hardware. I'd be careful about bringing the model to work. Some employees have sticky fingers. ;)
