Issue with FS9 DG Hunter

Post by Okami »

Hi all,

I've been enjoying quite a lot of the classic aircraft from this site for a while now (flying the Rapide in Eastern Africa; intercepting "bandits" in the Meteor NF.11; flying continental flights in the Viscount and Comet, and quite a lot else as well), but recently I've spotted something weird while flying the Dave Garwood Hawker Hunters. For some reason or another, while flying the Hunters - and only the Hunters, no other types - everything seems to go blurry. Here's a screenshot of a Hunter F4 scrambling out of RAF Wahn (Köln-Bonn Airport) just to illustrate what I mean:

As you can imagine, I'm quite puzzled as to what could be causing this, and I would hate to leave my Hunter fleet in storage because of this problem... :/

Regards,

Okami

The problem is that some DXT1 type textures in your Hunter do not have mipmaps and they DO have to have mipmaps to fix this problem. You can fix this by using Image Tool. There are several DXT1 textures in the Hunter and you just need to fix those...Leave the other textures as they are. If you are unable to do this or need help on it then contact me and I will see if I can do it for you.

As Peter said it's all to do with mips etc.
If you look at this post;
http://www.cbfsim.co.uk/cbfs_bb/viewtop ... 47#p252147
you'll find a downolad link DaveB kindly arranged that has the relevant textures in the relevant format that should cure the problem.
All the best.
Alan

Hi all,

Many thanks for the swift advice - I really hadn't expected an answer this soon, especially due to the late hour of my post! ^_^

I managed to replace all of the mentioned textures (got DXTbmp myself), and it seems to have done the trick!:

Again, many thanks for the help! ^_^

Just a quick comment to say that there seems to be a broken link in the above post by AlanK. Clicking on the link above takes you to AlanK's original post, but the link therein to a post by Peter is the one that gives me a very bland "not found" page ...

Hope that helps,
Ro

It's great to have the Hunter on my flightline again, recently I've returned to the fast fighters after a long time of long-distance flights (Constellation, Super Constellation, DC-6B, etc) - and after some scenery-building as well. I've actually been tinkering on some of them as well, such as adapting the aeromusic Avon sound-pack from the AFG Caravelle for the Hunter, or the Derwent sound-pack from the Seahawk, edited for use on dual-engined aircraft, for the Gloster Meteor. Here are a couple of screens from some recent flights:

Particularly the little Venom gave me a lot of headaches, as it is the old Roger Hardy one for FS2000. I tinkered a bit with the aircraft.cfg file and inserted the .air file and panel of the Pierre Marchadier Vampire, which considerably improve its low-speed handling (I'm unable to use the new Rob Richardson Venoms, as I still fly FS9...) The Suez-livery was a small addition of mine, as I only found 3 liveries for the original aircraft (14 Sqdn RNZAF, 266 Sqdn RAF and Swiss AF)
