The Longest Day

Post by Tomliner »

No not the film but the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere(before Mike jumps in!).I always feel a bit sad when this day passes and wondered if anyone else felt the same.I don't think it's an age thing,'twas ever thus but maybe it takes on a bit more significance with the passing years. On the other hand I am always pleased to see the passing of the winter solstice. One good thing about Christmas is that daylight is ever so slowly starting to increase. :) EricT

I'm with you there Eric, :agree: sad that the slow decline in daylight start here :'(

Not sure what the summer bit is...need to look that one up, and yes as you come out of the Christmas haze a extra few minutes have already been added and it matters not about the dark as it's getting better :)

I hate October and November :(

Well, I'm a bit hippy/pagan at heart so I like to align myself with equinox and solstice and natural events. However, today I'm working the Cardiff to Portsmouth service and the hippies from Stonehenge are piling on the Portsmouth trains at Salisbury to go to the Isle of Wight Festival. They're already soaked, smelly, filthy and drunk and carrying tents and huge backpacks and there are hundreds of 'em! The regular punters are giving me hell and asking me to call the police. I say it's not illegal to swear and be unpleasant. I can hardly force their set of morals onto free spirits!

Anyway, I'll keep you informed as I've got to take another train down in half an hour!

Ian :)
