I can't speak from BMW side of the dealership, but when you consider we arrived in a T reg Rover 600, I was half expecting them to be at least a little cool. They were absolutely superb, made sure Daisy (our 2 year old) was kept entertained and he even took the time to explain some of the more female pleasing aspects of the cars to my wife. I really couldn't fault them now.

Sorry to hear of your experience Ben but does not really surprise me in a way, I had very bad service with Vauxhall many many years ago not only with one of their cars but also by the sales staff, since that experience, even though I got a full refund, I have never walked back through their doors and never will again!!!!

Well to put another perspective, although not recent

, I was pleased enough by Vauxhall cars and the sales staff to have bought new:

E reg Astra
G reg Astra ( a bit of a dog so traded in)
H reg Cavalier
K reg Cavalier

interlude of M reg Ford Mondeo - the only really unpleasant car I have owned for noise levels on long runs

S reg Vectra - 14 years old and still running

Wife has M reg Tigra - 16 years old and still running

Next car? Just the one car between us when I retire. No idea but the link with the guys at the preferred Vauxhall garage went long ago as a result of mergers. Basically the best deal/discounts on the day will be the decider.

E reg Cavalier 1.3L saloon
S reg Vectra 1.7 rd Hatch
03 Vectra 2.2 petrol
But so far, without exception my two Rover 620ti's were the best cars I have ever driven. If the Mini is anywhere close, I'll be a happy man.

Well I bought a 2.0l deisel Qashqai +2 last September.

Well, go to another dealer and experience a completely different approach.
I've been consulting dealerships for the Dagenham brand here in Austria for two years. The first one might be just fine everything perfect - the next one's a complete mess. And fact is - you can't dismiss one because you need the sales figures of both. The manufacturer's influence on dealerships has suffered a lot in the last twenty years - it has changed from control to enslavement. However the customer still connects his experience at the dealer to the brand - ending up buying another product at the end, which from a marketing point of view is an absolute disaster! Sad to hear that hasn't changed at all - not even under the pressure of crisis times...

I was also looking for a bigger car recently - yeeees, I will need space for three from july on...

I bought a 2001 Astra Estate from one elderly lady owner, feels/looks brand new, 47k miles (proven by lots of bills) for only € 1900,-
Feels absolutely fine for Memsahib - and I wont cry over too much loss in value...

Didn't add the engine size of my Vauxhalls - enough to say the S reg Vectra is a 2.5 V6. The engine is going to be around long after the body!

And my only Rover was a 3.5 V8 SD1 (W reg). Very nice, but even in those days a bit expensive on petrol! Looked like this for those that don't remember (and mine was this colour) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ustria.jpg

To be honest I dread making the decision on my next car - not too big but still big enough to bring home DIY or gardening purchases, and of course economical.

Not sure a Mini would fit that requirement?
