Re: BEA Flying Jack
Well it has always looked blue to me...As far as I am concerned I have never flown a green civilian aeroplane

Re: BEA Flying Jack
Think of it as a variation of turquoise Peter. Some see it as blue while others see it as green. I think it's those who see it as red that have a real problem

Re: BEA Flying Jack
Nor forgetting the official name was Peacock Green.....but I have no idea what colour green peacocks are.
I had a Metro the was orange when clean and went red after a day or two.
Over time it got more of a matt red, but it was only the right colour when clean..so it spent most of it's time in red.

Re: BEA Flying Jack
Did they not change the cheat line on that Peter or was it a hybrid. I note BA titles
Peacock Green was BEA FJ (as if I should be telling you that having flown it enough times)

Re: BEA Flying Jack
That shows it in it's mottled faded form as describe above
We used to actually look at the Viscounts and comment on how the green faded.
This is the true colour
http://www.airliners.net/photo/BEA---Br ... 2bd81037cd
http://www.airliners.net/photo/BEA---Br ... dbcb384621
It's a bit like Red Square
The stripe eventually faded to a patchy matt very, very dark grey but everyone accepts that the true colour was black which was only really shown up if an area was repainted then the old paint didn't look anywhere near as black as the new paint.
In this pic the stripe is considered black but the light and the photography shows the colour far from true black

Re: BEA Flying Jack
Thks for posting that Garry.. it poked me with a sharp stick
The shot is obviously hybrid
ZM was one of the newer 3's (del 16/12/71) so assuming BA titles from Apr '74.. that's how the colour had faded with some 2.5-3yrs service

Re: BEA Flying Jack
Looking at my picture there is a small area on the forward and aft edges of the open doorway at about hand height, where people have touched it and rubbed it clean...Those bits look nice and blue

here are two more, taken as I was departing:-

Unfortunately, they are all taken against the light.

Re: BEA Flying Jack
Matching those two 'true colour' photos up with the earlier 4 choices, it's definitely closest to no 4 on my screen.

Sorry for the minor copyright infringement there. It's not theft.... it's a science experiment. (apologies to Doc Brown for that too
)
No 4 has slightly more blue than green.
However, I wouldn't be surprised if it matched no 2 in real life. No 2 has the same amount of blue & green.
