It's in the USA, they often have problems identifying things that are not US-built. I was listening to someone once who was describing a Vampire as 'the first British fighter jet that flew in WWII and tipped over V-1s'. Yeah, sure.

I remember reading that one of the big problems that pilots had when they started flying p51's was getting shot at by the bomber crews they were supposed to protect.... they were getting mistaken for Me-109's . they eventually had to have special marking or something to set them apart .
