Ferry Test...

Post by petermcleland »

One problem with formations of AI aircraft is that they must fly VFR. If they go IFR then they will be immediately separated by radar guidance. The highest AI Traffic can go in FS and remain VFR is 18000 feet...If programmed above that then they will file an IFR flightplan regardless of the weather.

For my pending first leg of the 208 Squadron ferry flight out to Kenya the altitude for the track to Malta is 17000 feet and I thought the Alps might be a bit of a problem. So I sent the Boss's aeroplane down on its own to Malta for a practice run to check it out...

A few snaps can be seen here:-

Thanks for looking :fly:

Yes indeed.. FL180 is a bit of a pain with a safety height over the Alps of FL183 but for the sake of the exercise, 17k shouldn't be a problem :) I noticed a very unusual shaped mountain in one of those shots Peter.. one I can't recall ever having seen before *-)

Dave that big white ugly mountain was Mont Blanc...Unfortunately that bit was FS9 default scenery...Mont Blanc looks nothing like that for real

Ah yes.. or as Garry pointed out.. Mt Gates

I don't think my Mt Blanc looks like that Peter but at this point, I can't guarantee where my mesh for that area came from. I'm moved to go and find it now

EDIT.. thankfully, my Mt Blanc is rather less severe than that one ;)

Dave,

I have the same problem about remembering just what mesh is there if any...when I get some spare time I will set about unticking a few things and checking the results

Yes Peter.. it's an odd part of the world. You wouldn't expect there to be a great deal of conflict there but I'm sure in the past, I've installed sceneries like Caselle or Malpensa and these have come with mesh for that part of the Alps too :-O Some Austrian sceneries also come with Switzerland mesh.. it's a devil of a job to know just what's what! It's only when you come across something like your Mont Blanc that all was NOT well but remembering what you've installed is far from easy.

I wish you luck with your search ;)
