Hi Peter, wonderful photographs you have posted, not able to view the 'presentation' as such on the 'works computer' but still never tire of looking at those photographs. As much as I like the Hunter the Venom remains one of my favourite Classics of single engined jets!!

Many thanks for showing Peter.

Regards
Nigel.

Well, I have more hours in the Venom but my absolute favourite aeroplane that I've flown is certainly the Hunter FGA9...You don't really need the "presentation" Nigel as you have it all in Copy Number 8 ;)

I finally got this to work how it was supposed to:-

http://www.petermcleland.com/powerpoint ... _Kenya.zip

Unzip the downloaded file to anywhere and it will create a folder called 208_Squadron_in_Kenya...Open the folder and doubleclick the file "208_Squadron_in_Kenya.pps".

The PowerPoint presentation should now play with music.

If you just let it run then it will go for about half an hour.

If you do not have Microsoft's PowerPoint then you can download a free PowerPoint Viewer here:-

Al Tents...

Thought I would add a picture of the AlTents that made our 208 Squadron accommodation at Nairobi Airport in 1960

Image
This is the group of three that the pilots used...The other group of three were used by the airmen and NCOs.

I am fourth from the left...At the time of this photo I had been "A" Flight Commander for a few months while a Flight Lieutennant with a PC (Permanent Commission) was found for the job. I was on a 12 year Short Service Commission and it was policy to use PC officers as Flight Commanders. The new "A" Flight Commander is standing behind me...He is "Mac" Macdermid. So, left to right it is Pete Tate, Huck Sawyer, two Macs, Dicky Brown, Paddy Thompson (our engineer), Pete Biddiscombe, can't remember, and Roy Renshaw ("B" Flight Commander).

The Al Tents were very comfortable to use but we took our lunches in the Airport Restaurant, where all the pretty airline hostesses ate! In the evenings the single chaps commuted back to the Eastleigh Messes and the married chaps to their accommodations in Nairobi.
