Strange boxes on the outside world visuals

Post by boltie »

Dave

I have noticed on some models (or maybe it is just at some times on my computer) I get strange white boxes streaming off the wingtips or black boxes round the sun. I also sometimes get areas of the outside world which are not being computed.

Is this just a function of graphics speed and perhaps some models taking greater computing capacity than others, or is there something I can do about it?

Hi John,

Thats usually Graphic card related, either that the card isn't up to displaying wingtip vortex / sun flare etc, or that the graphics settings within the sim are to high for the card. You could try reducing the setting in FS and see if that makes any difference. :)

Hi John..

I think Ben has probably hit the nail on the head there so give his suggestion a try ;) I often see (in FSX) squares where lamps are.. particularly if I've been goofing all over the place outside but they're only there for a brief moment before returning to lamps again. In FS9, there is a setting 'Hardware rendered lights'.. this is probably still available in FSX too. Increasing or decreasing the number (mine is 6 in FS9) had an immediate effect on how lights (eg, nav lamps) display. Bring it down to 1 and all your aircraft lights will be squares.. it is THAT immediate  With that in mind.. it could be as Ben suggested, your graphic card struggling with the setting as the fx used in some 'smoke' effects are actually lights.. not smoke.
Best thing to suggest is fiddle until you get a satisfactory compromise (noting of course what your original settings were) ;)

I've briefly seen that with lights and smoke :worried:

It's the extremety of the effects 'part' seen when the graphic card has not yet rendered it as it should.......in essence it is a complex multi facited shape shown briefly in it's simplest form.
