Sorry Chris OFFTOPIC but you reminded me of the classic line in "Always" when Ted Baker tries to put out the fire in Al Yakeys office
"Bad crosswind over the trashcan?"

"Always" is always on topic when talking about aerial firefighting. (Bad Pun, I'll get my Coat after these short words).
Banked delivery is actually something they do on occasion and with some of the smaller aircraft like the Fire Tracker, they can actually "throw" a drop by rolling aggressively as they open the doors.

Re: Evergreen's 747 water tanker
Sorry to dredge up this thread again
But for those who were interested the 747 Tanker made its debut today on the La Canada "Station" fired burning around LA
Because the DC10 is working the Camp Pendleton fire just north of San Diego......
BIG fire bomber but not big enough to tame a 200000 acre wild fire
Beeny hope your safe down there in OC
For those of you "over there" who wish an idea of the scale --its 250 miles from here to LA and Las Vegas has been smoked out for the last three days -- its so strong you can almost tell what kind of wood is burning.

Re: Evergreen's 747 water tanker
Back in 2001 or 2002 when there were massive fires in Russia, we could smell it all the way in Colorado and it kept visibilites all summer to somewhere around 5 miles. Was definitely interesting flying.
