As it's one of the more dangerous airports to fly into (or at least it used to be) I've always flown TAP as they used to offer special training for their pilots to fly there. Having seen the video I think I might switch to EasyJet. Their landings seem a lot smoother.

What is really sobering is that landing from the northeast as shown on the video is relatively straightforward compared with the approach from the opposite direction , which requires about a 225 degree right turn onto finals with rapidly rising high ground immediately to the west of the coastline, and a very nasty curl over of the wind over a viaduct on very short finals . Hairier than Gibraltar, and much much hairier than Innsbruck . Most airlines only allow specially trained and approved crews to operate to Funchal, and indeed Gib

Well Ian it was about the pucker factor on hairy landings....but by the sounds of that Round the world cake...i think thats more of a pucker factor..... :lol: :lol: :lol:
