It always amazes me how the VC10 conveys the impression of shear size!! it always looked bigger than the 707s and Dc8s
when the Air Malawi one used to visit Gatwick

I think the VC10 only looks big when viewed from anywhere aft of the wing. IMO anywhere forward of that position it looks stumpy, the Std at least. Possibly also the dark blue of BOAC gives you the impression of size.
