Trident autoland/FSrecorder

Post by forthbridge »

After completing Peters' tutorial, I have had several successfull landings at EGPH with the autoland on the Trident. I have noticed howver that the wheels always touch down past the TDZ - on the markings beyond it. Is this unavoidable, or a possible issue with what I am doing? (Speeds are dialled in appropriately).....

Secondly - I have recorded these with the intention of posting some self-praising screenies - but on every one, the aircraft turns into a submarine once it lands!

As far as I know, we didn't autoland at EDI but even at LHR we would not expect the autoland to occur on the marks (too many variables).

What do you mean by submarine? BTW the Recorder Module will NOT record the position of the Trident Autopilot switches so during the playback you will still need to click them at the appropriate times to get the correct panel presentation.

HI Peter,

After your tutorial (Heathrow) I set up the instruments for a similar exercise at EGPH. I had set the instruments, from the cockpit view, and was enjoying the view from the tower, positioned on the centreline, as the trident approached with a little yaw into the 6knot wind, when, upon rollout, the aircraft 'slipped under the runway'. (on the replay).

For some reason, despite there being a strong wind at 266 degrees, FS starts me on the 06 runway!!

Anyway, the autoland just got me down safely, despite severe wind, 17kts at 266 gusting to 31 kts (at decision height!!)

Thankyou Peter for the very good tutorial, and DM of course for the ability to use it!

I am *really* starting to like the Trident now!!

Incidentally, (not being an instrument flier) - I set the ADF to the appropriate runway for Edinburgh (to line up with the ILS) and set VOR1 to Tala in the event of overshoot to do a 'wide' circuit back to land.

Would this be correct?

(IIRC a missed approach to 24 would be a climbing right turn to EDN locator at 3000ft)

No, definitely not...Both NAVs should be set to the ILS frequency...In the real aircraft there were actually 3 NAV sets and ALL Three were tuned to the ILS...Remember, the Trident has a full TRIPLEX system...Three autopilots, three Rad Alts, three Nav boxes. Three of everything. The three systems "Monitor" each other and then when one of them notices that it is different from the other Two, it switches itself OFF and this generates the appropriate warnings.

On an overshoot from RW07 you would climb ahead to 1610 feet and then turn left to the UW 368.0 at 3000 feet...An overshoot from RW25 would be ahead to 1600 feet and then turn right to EDN 341.0 at 3000 feet. Of course, the runways are now 06/24 with the MagVar change since the Trident time...BTW in Trident time that runway was only 2560 metres long and that is why we didn't autoland there. Plus the fact that the ILS there was not suitable.

Thanks Peter.

Has Edinburgh's main runway been recently extended? I thought it was around 2500 meters?
