Perfect for preservation

Post by VEGAS »

Hi all,

came across this article regarding an old tank that spent many decades under several feet of mud after the second world war. When it was finally discovered and unearthed it was found to be in excellent condition.

If only that could happen with an old classic aircraft, although I seem to recall a B-29 was found preserved in ice somewhere a few years ago.

I'm not sure what happened to that though.

Hi,

Re the B29, if it's the one I'm thinking about it had some sort of temporary generator in the back. Whilst taxiing over the ice to get in a position to take-off, the generator got dislodged and caught fire. The crew made a quick exit and the aircraft was totally destoyed be the fire.

edit: not quite right but close enough, see link below

The Story about the B-29 is quite sad, to see all those years of work go up in flames must have been heartbreaking, knowing how much effort they had put into its restoration.

Thanks for posting the link, it provided quite an interesting read, although a sad one.
