Re: Am I FSX Ready?
If David has included the "fix" in his latest upload, you just have to be a bit more patient. Press the "up" (or "down") button and hold it, then you should be able to alter your point of view, although not as fast as in FS9. I think they have reduced the amount of difference with a factor 10 or so in FSX. Just something to get used to.speedbird591 wrote:... Is there a way round this?...

Re: Am I FSX Ready?
Thanks, Dan. I'll give it a try. But does that mean that 2D cockpits are a no go area unless DM has done a fix for them????
That sounds like 'A Bad Thing'. At least for me...
Ian :-(

Re: Am I FSX Ready?
2D cockpits are fine mate... may be the odd niggle, but the comet and VC10's are OK now. Can't remember the 1-11 and Trident

Ben.

Re: Am I FSX Ready?
Even though I fly FSX, I still fancy the 2D's the best. 2D are absolutely GO as Ben also pointed out. (none of the HJG's has 3D's, but they still fly brilliant in FSX)
Btw. I was referring to the two icons, David has placed in the panel to adjust the eye-point. Not ant buttons on the keyboard, mouse or joystick...

Re: Am I FSX Ready?
Just tried out the standard VC10 again. The two up/dn icons seem to work 'sometimes', but not all the time. And the effect they have is not the same as in FS9. In FS9 it is as if you have raised your seat to see over the dashboard. In FSX it lowers the dashboard and the seat. I still couldn't quite see the threshold on finals, but when I landed I felt so close to the ground it was like I had no undercarriage. Although a quick check outside showed that I had! Very weird effect.DanKH wrote:Btw. I was referring to the two icons, David has placed in the panel to adjust the eye-point. Not ant buttons on the keyboard, mouse or joystick...
Only other issues I have with the VC10, probably config file things, are the cockpit views other than forward (I don't have any) and the smoke is in the wrong place.
In FS9, I have programmed a couple of joystick buttons to move the eyepoint up/down which works fine. It works in FSX in 3D/VC but not 2D. How do you guys manage to see the runway in 2D?

Re: Am I FSX Ready?
Ian,
If you check the keyboard assignments, you will be able to change the eyepoint as you are used to. MS changed the default key assignment for eyepoint in the 2-D cockpit, but left the VC ones the same.
Unfortunately, I don't have either version installed at the moment, so I can't check it for you! However, the Options menu will have them and I think they are on the kneeboard as well.
Good luck, and the '10 is looking well there. I'm sure Dan will agree!

Well yes the smoke.... FSX has the coordinates z,x,y where FS9 had them x,y,z (or something like that) just have to re-puzzle them a bit , and they will show up fine...
And no there are no extra views in the 2D other than the panel-view. That's life unfortunately.
But when David decides to make a 3D ...... well you know the history ;-)
Btw. I think the smoke-section should look like this:
[SMOKESYSTEM]
Smoke.0=-57.70, -9.60, 2.50, DM_VC10_SMOKE_R
Smoke.1=-57.70, -15.10, 2.50, DM_VC10_SMOKE_R
Smoke.2=-57.70, 9.60, 2.50, DM_VC10_SMOKE_L
Smoke.3=-57.70, 15.10, 2.50, DM_VC10_SMOKE_L
Please don't hang me if it isn't correct

Re: Am I FSX Ready?
Dan the smoke man!
Those co-ordinates look about right, thank you very much.
But I still have a BIG problem with the eyepoint move up/move down command in 2Dview. Not just on the VC10 but on the default a/c as well, so I assume it is something inherent in FSX. I can change the eyepoint in 2D by programming the controller buttons (as Myles has said) or using DM's arrow icons in the VC10 but they ONLY work on the ground (so you have to set them before your flight) and the effect is very different in FSX to FS9.
Using this command in FS9 the scenery moves and the effect is rather like tilting the a/c around its c of g and raising or lowering the nose to increase the angle of view. The perspective of the scenery changes realistically. In FSX the the whole arcraft is raised or lowered vertically, while remaining horizontal, without changing the perspective. When you land it feels like you're sitting in a 747.
The 3D cockpit effect using this command is the same in both sims. The scenery and the eyepoint remain the same but the dashboard is raised or lowered to increase your field of view. Rather like raising the seat.
Here are four screenshots of the FSX default A321 to illustrate. They are exaggerated to show better what I mean. The aircraft is inthe same position in each shot.
First is the 3D eyepoint - moved almost fully down and the second almost fully up. Looks OK - like raising the seat.

But this is the 2D eyepoint - to be able to see the threshold on the approach it has to be like the second shot and you can see how unrealistic it is when you have landed.

Is this is how 2D is in FSX, I won't be able to use it
Any comments?
Ian
