Re: Folland Gnat
Hi Chris
I understand about the small reg but I thought in those cases they carried a mil serial as a part of the livery which in itself aids identification??

If it is a JP (with an amended tailpipe?), I found a Gnat and JP based in South Carolina belonging to the same person
N204JP BAC JET PROVOST P84 MK 4 XR701
N953RH FOLLAND (BRITISH AEROSPACE) GNAT T.MK.1 XR953
from:
http://www.aircraftone.com/aircraft/reg ... rolina.asp
And I can't find any photos on the net of these two in US markings to confirm.

Good bit of digging there Ian
How is it that some folk don't only own one aircraft.. they own a handful :o Should there be such a thing as re-incarnation.. I'm coming back as a rich man's pup!

Re: Folland Gnat
Not necessarily. It depends on what was in the original scheme. The CAF Hellcat has no serial numbers on it, only a tail band with "CAG" on it. This is accurate to the real airplane. Also, as with a lot of warbirds, the paint they wear today may not actually be the airplane they are. Most P-51s out there have a serial number totally different from that of the one represented by the paint scheme (which will include a serial number on it). Identification is done via the dataplate which is usually co-located with the registration under the horizontal stab.Garry Russell wrote:Hi Chris

The FAA is much more lenient with these kinds of things as they understand that you're presenting the aircraft not the registration and that if you're showing the aircraft at airshows you'll have to fill out a lot more paperwork so they'll still know who you were when you crash...
