My First Flight lesson..... the results

Post by airboatr »

well ... ..........I'm still alive .....and the instructor too.
He said I did really well. the take off was a bit messy as that was the first time I went all out by myself
I was thinking I needed more speed so Dennis pulled back on the yoke a tad to help me.
but as soon as we were airborne he had his hands back off and I climbed out and flew it to 1200 ft
then we went out over the ocean and just absorbed the scenery.....
then some instruction
he kept it level and I push hard left and right on the rudder to get the feel of yaw
then I held it level and he pushed hard on the rudder
after that lesson I understood the feeling "flying by the seat of your pants" and I did some pretty quick and hard left and right banks
with out any assistance and with a lot of ada boys and good job's from the instructor
the Landing I did really good...... was a bit high at first..... (before the turn to line up with the runway)
but didn't freak and landed it good and firm but not hard.......... "good flare" he said.
(and that was a twilight landing! awsome to watch the sun go down it was like a big red orange foam ball sinking .......)

I asked him to give me a good honest report and said "look I got big shoulders so give it to me straight"
0- to- 10 gave me a Five on the take off
but after that a 7 so all in all with the .8hrs on the tach
he gave me a good strong seven
First time...... taxi , back to parking I held the controls throughout except the take off for just a second he pulled harder than I was on the yoke
and I think I counted five other times in the turns and elevation changes in the begining he tugged on the yoke.
So not bad ........
I'm still alive after all... :tunes:

BTW no pics ... sorry but after the preflight it was getting late and I didn;t need any distractions....
there will be other times ............. he was a good fisherman and set the hook proper
I'll be going back for more :)

Well done, there is nothing to equal the first flight apart from......the first 'solo'

Only wish that the RAF paid me a bit more during the 70s' then I might have afforded to go the whole way!! :-(

Regards Nigel.

I vaguely remember the first flight though. I think I was "concentrating too hard" (a polite way of saying I was probably poo-pooing myself) to remember my first solo! :flying:

I remember the aeroplane though: G-BHHG

hi Rich
Was flying a Almost new 172 with all glass panel (which I did not like compared to all the other GA I've flown
(that's up in the air after take off)
Nigel your right about the grin :D but as far as looking ahead to a solo , well .......I hope that day will pass
.... Peter M 's first solo flight (first flight) was a solo if I remember right. :o
