Sometime doors can jam if the fuse distorts........so I guess that was a little extra insurance against a few seconds fiddling

Yes, that's the reason. It is a nice Travelair 95. Looked at it about 10 or so months ago and watched the event live on TV here. One of CBS 11's anchors is a pilot who flies twins quite a bit. He had a simliar incident (in a different airplane) and had to do the same thing except at 2330 and at a small airfield in Pennsylvania. He gave a very good running commentary that was much more competent than what the other channels attempted to give. Only mistake the guys made on the whole thing was forgetting to turn off the master switch (could be dangerous if they needed to put water or foam on the plane due to fire).

A link to CBS 11's coverage -

http://cbs11tv.com/topstories/local_sto ... 80706.html

The story video is introduced by Doug Dunbar (the anchor/pilot). The Raw Video has the statements of the CBS 11TV pilot, but it doesn't include Doug's commentary sadly.

Thanks for that insight Chris

Yeah...I noticed the master thingy.he remebered and went back.

Still looks like there was little damaged and the occupants seemed calm enough

Yep. I suspect they'll replace the belly skins that were damaged and the gear doors and then re-grind the props to balance them (since there was a little damage to the leading edge of both "low" blades) and then it'll be back in service within probably no more than 3 months.

some very nice aviating indeed.

If such an occasion ever arises, I'd like to think I'd be able to act as calmly as that.

Only ever had one in air scare and thankfully everything I needed to get back on the ground safely was functioning. Touch wood it stays that way ;)
