Cessna 172 into O'Hare

The title pretty well says it all. ATC's initial response pretty well matches up with my first thought.

Re: Leif would have loved this - Alabeo's new Cessna 207

I confess I'm tempted, solely because the 207 is the only GA craft I've flown aboard in real life.

Upon reflection though, I don't know that it could be called a flight, since I was on board for the takeoff and climb only. The descent and landing were extravehicular, and much more pleasant that ...

No mountains, which gives me an excuse to head to Colorado for a holiday. Being a runnist and a cycler, I can confirm the terrain is much less flat around here than it looks.

Send in the drones!

Here's a nifty bit of footage some chap shot of my fair city using a drone. The malt shop featured toward the beginning is a few block from my house; the dog loves to make the walk there for the treats.

They don't mention it, but the video starts out at the state capitol. That's real gold leaf on ...

A new use for old Beetles?

I stumbled across this on YouTube, as you do. This chap built a seven cylinder radial engine using some bits from VW Beetle engines. I was amazed both by the workmanship, and how well it runs. I'd heard before of using Beetle engines in kit planes, but I rather doubt this was what anyone had in mind ...

Supercell Time-lapse

This bit of video from Wyoming is making the rounds on this side of the pond; and it's quite the sight. Usually, if I see this sort of thing coming my way I make a bee-line for the basement with the pup.

Re: Video: Unlocking a Car with your Brain

I was always astonished how well that trick worked when I had the BMW, I mean, MINI. Knowing how it works doesn't reduce the joy of the trick though.

Haven't tried it with the Golf; since it came with keyless entry and start, usually the only time the keys are in hand is when i'm back home ...

No Ordinary Paper Airplane

Wandering around the internets as one does, I came across this article.

http://io9.com/this-meticulously-crafted-777-replica-is-made-of-manila-1504096998/@ballaban

This chap has tons more time on his hands than I; he's modeling a Boeing 777 using manila filing folders as his medium.

The level ...

Re: Brrrrr!

As I type, the current temp is a balmy -12C, which is a good deal warmer that the high temp from Monday. It managed all of -21C as the high, and factoring in the winds it felt closer to that magical number -40.

It was cold enough the dog didn't want to spend much time outdoors, and I usually have ...
