New British Files Site
I've been thinking for a while about what I can offer this community and have decided that, after obtaining a large amount of webspace and bandwidth, that a site devoted to hosting Classic British addon files may be a good idea.
An AVSIM for files which appeal to us if you will.
The aim is for it to be a site where all of the great files which appeal to those on this forum and i'm sure many more who don't come here can be downloaded for free.
Sadly, graphic design is not my strong point so it may not look great but it does work.
Rick Piper has already kindly let his files be hosted there and hopefully others will follow.
Are there any other designers happy to have files hosted there?
Eventually I hope to have reviews and screenshot galleries to go with the files.
I have not included a forum on purpose as this is the best for Classic Brit stuff.
Is this a good idea? What is your opinion?
Please let me know.
The URL us http://www.classicbritishfiles.com
Thanks,
Rob.

You raise some good points.Canuck wrote:I posted a possibly vote, my concern is that it be 100% with the authority of the designers which I am sure you will comply with but more importantly that the aircraft hosted be the creme de la creme and not to be tempted to host so-so models. I say this as presently I am culling my aircraft list in FS to make it more manageable and in preparedness for FSX. But on occasion there are aircraft which are not quite tip top, but for nostalgic reasons I am loathe to delete them. Some of Mike Stones spring to mind here.
I've had discussions with other members about this and it is very difficult to say where the line should be drawn.
I don't want a site which is just based on my personal opinion as that would not represent everyones views, obviously.
It is possible to vote for files and then view them based on their rating, this is about the best compromise I can think of.
I have not yet decided on which files should be allowed and which shouldn't.
Thanks for your opinion.

You offer a handy solution for what should and shouldnt go Rob
and I believe there is enough exoertise and maturity (on occasion)
on the forum to warrant a vote - The obvious thing that comes to mind
is where one draws the line as far as the defintion "British" and "Classic"
go - For instance - would one include the Canadair C4 which had Merlins
and NOT the L049 or the Start which were for many post war years
the backbone of BOAC???

Caught me off guard here so find it hard to comment either way.. so I won't at this point
As for the Connie or Canadair.. neither are 'Classic British' in my humble opinion. While they filled a gap (or fulfilled a requirement for British operators at that time).. that's all they did. Imagine in years to come, if the 737/747/757 e t c were to be classed as Classic British because they served BA for many years  I don't care what engines they had fitted or where the toilet rolls came from.. Classic they may eventually turn out to be but British.. NEVER!!

It's not something which is going to come easily I can see that.DispatchDragon wrote:You offer a handy solution for what should and shouldnt go Rob

My current view is the the aircraft themselves should be majority British and there should be a seperate section for others, much like the CNB section here.
What is a classic is also difficult. Should it be something no longer in production? (everything British then) The 757 is no longer produced, is it classic... Maybe not!!!

A funny subject this one
I take fully the points about type like the Canadair Four not being classic British but under the same rules the Chipmunk wouldn't be either.
That though is thought of almost as British but it was an original design by a Canadian Company

I think you totally missed my point. neither the Canadair nor
the Connie or the Strat are "Classic British" by ANY stretch of
the imagination - as I clearly stated at the end I was being the Devils
Advocate - and pointing out there are those who disagree with
that , just as Garry so adroitly pointed out the Chippie is not
entirely a British Classic and Im sure there are those that would
disagree with that statement as well....if you want to continue
that line - lets see Austers are all out, Beagles nee Scottish Aviation
are verboten due to the use of Lycoming Powerplants..What
I was attempting to point out in my first post was that very clear
guidelines need to be drawn up -- Oh yes also nixed are the Herc,
F4, ANY Boeing no matter what powerplants....lord have mercy
the list is getting short isnt it????
