Who needs DX12...

Tried DX12 (which is still classed as beta) and wasn't overly impressed. These are all in DX11...

I'm really loving these sand dunes at Llanbedr. they look much more lifelike than before. I can't say if they are like this everywhere though.

Great shots there Ben Shots into the valley and the dunes superb
Not sure about dx12 myself But getting slightly better performance with it, (newest studio driver)
so running with it atm.
First flight today with su10, down to Naples. No screenies though. Run with dlss quality, but numbers scroll strangely. Will go back to taa on return trip

Great pictures, and great new clouds with SU10 too. I'm happy with DX11 and TAA for now, but will start the serious experimenting this week when the game-ready driver is released.

Great shots Ben....I remember sitting in the dunes at Llanbedr, probably 1994(ish) watching one of the red/yellow Meteors (possibly the one now at Boscombe Aviation Museum/Old Sarum) doing circuits....happy days :)

I'm still not sure about that splinter grey camo on the Hunter *-) .....being an ex Gutersloh "erk" I much prefer the classic FR10 II(AC) Sqn camo ;)

I must admit I like it, it's a bit different, but I have a hankering for a GR3 Harrier from the West German days.

In other new, I tried DX12. I took the Hunter up from Llanbedr again with 3 different DX12 settings.

DX12 with DLSS Balanced:-
30% VRAM usage.
20% - 30% GPU usage.
Performance was very good, 60 - 70 FPS
very fine blockiness where the peeks of the mountains in the far distance met the skyline. Clouds much better than DX11.

DX12 with DLSS Quality:-
50% VRAM usage.
50% - 60% GPU usage.
Performance was good, 50 - 60 FPS
not as much fine blockiness where the peeks of the mountains in the far distance met the skyline. Clouds much better than DX11.

DX12 with TAA
50% - 60% VRAM usage.
90% - 100% GPU usage.
Performance was good, 50 - 60 FPS
Clouds much better than DX11.
Almost no fine blockiness where the peeks of the mountains in the far distance met the skyline.

Same here Ben. Flew back in pmdg 737 from Naples with TAA. No scrolling or blurred digits when say turning the hdg knob. I would think dlss would be acceptable with steam gauges, but modern panels it's poor. Clouds are the best I've seen with dx12. Didn't bother to check frame rates (it's locked anyhow) but just smooth with no stutters what so ever. Just want to test with Fenix (it strains the system the most) before I give it 5 stars

Thats interesting Dale. I’ll give it a go with the 146. The Hunter is very friendly on performance anyway, but just wanted to see how it compared in the Valleys as thats where I’d been last night in DX11.

I did notice when flying in the clouds at 14000ft they could be a bit artifacty in the first instance, but quickly cleared up. I think DLSS might really help with lower spec cards, but I was surprised how little VRAM was being used. I’ve 10GB to play with and I was expecting a heavier load tbh. Looking forward to Canada coming out (tomorrow is it?) so I can continue bringing my 146 home.

DLSS renders at a lower resolution, then upscales it to your screen res, so I assume that's why it uses less vram. Would also account for the slight blurriness.

Lovely screenshots Ben, have not been flying as pretty much busy in the garden at the moment, mainly cutting back bushes, dead heading flowers on their last legs and too knackered when I come back indoors so missing all the fun by the looks of it.

Hoping to get back up in the air soon.

Regards
Nigel.

New Nvidia game ready driver 517.48, is out. After a couple of circuits round Duxford at 1000 ft, I think there is a perceptible improvement in DLSS, but the runway markings are still much sharper with TAA. DX12 seems to be better, very nice performance, so I'm happy with that. All this and Ant's Tiger Moth too. What a lovely week it's been.
