British F35 crashes into Mediterranean
Fortunately the pilot ejected safely but at £92 million, it is a costly loss!!!

Glad the pilot is safe, but hope they don't take the cost out of his wages over xxxx years.

They'll be after recovering the wreckage quickly , no doubt. Glad the pilot is safe.

Re: British F35 crashes into Mediterranean
Interesting photograph; my first thought was that it looked like a flight sim screen shot.
I see one of the RAF units in the US line up, but what's that "star with meatball" doing there on something white?

Re: British F35 crashes into Mediterranean
The white thing is the open intake cover on the vertical thruster fan. I suppose they painted it there for a bit of fun. Here's an RAF one with similar - there's not much to do on long sea voyages.

Don't laugh. This was seriously suggested as a way of identifying Nato vs Warsaw Pact aircraft by painting the tail a different colour everyday.

Thanks Paul,
Explains why it's not current official marking.
