Just a updated , because I know my mates care. :)
We got the problem sorted.
The bowl vent had been mucked about with and the linkage that controls the vent position at idle.
..
Next project will be the fuel tank. Traces of iron oxide was found in the fuel filter .. So the tank will be removed - treated - and replaced.

Good luck with it Joe.
So, some of your mates read this forum too, eh?
When you say that you're going to replace the rusty tank, do you mean buy a new one, or re-install it?
I was reading a magazine about expensive cars whilst waiting for the doctor today.
One bloke, with a Porsche 911, had been told that the worn 1st gear input shaft was going to cost $5000 for the part, then the hardened surface of this gear and that were worn away(!?) He reckoned that the engine rebuild and gearbox repair were going to set him back $45,000, which was what he'd paid for the whole car.
Contrast that to the Rolls Royce story recently related in the pages.
I then turned to another page, to see that a Bugatti, which is built up starting with the engine, costs about $4million.
I bought some cooking chocolate on special last night, $3 for 200g. Perspective, I'm trying to maintain perspective. :)

To Chris & George,
Our dog is more than 3.5litres, no cylinders, and I'm glad that she runs like a dog.

Sounds good, Joe.
Apart from that rust, you had a leaky carby; what happened there?

Wow Joe, that is certainly something and the engine sounded a sweet as a pea. How long before it is ready for the road?

Nigel.
