Just under 3,500 Wellingtons were built there during WW2. After the war, Hawker took over the factory and around 300 Hunters were built there. The current runway 28/10 (6000ft originally) was constructed for the Hunters.

Indeed, quite a history
All over now..attempts to get it to reopen but, like Manston, the lights are off and the cat has been put out.

We all go back to work (well those of us who have got our jobs back) on 1st December, airfield should be open for general use by 12th with ATC (no radar) and fire category 2. No Commercial Air Transport flights for now other then Bond Offshore helicopters.
Old pilots never die, they just run out of runway.
