A quick Hello!
Hi chaps,
Just thought I'd pop my head round the door and say a quick hello.
Not been here for a good while but I'm often reading the threads to see what everyones up to.
Still get on the sim now and again but not as much as I'd like.
Spend most spare time running around keeping the family happy and playing games with a crazy three and a half year old!
I must have watched Frozen about 1000 times now.
Now the missus wants another one so there's another 18 years provisionally booked up.
Work front is superb.
Virtually seems like a lifetime ago that I was patrolling the streets as a Cop.
Now, I'm driving trains full of people through the Cheshire countryside and its absolutely brilliant.
I never thought driving a train would be so mentally draining. I often come home and just flop on the sofa.
Physically, its quite straightforward. Simple controls and layout.
The job gets challenging when things go wrong and you fail on the fast line with a fleet of express's following you a couple of sections behind.
Then its down to your Rules knowledge and ability to keep calm and deal with everything that the situation throws at you.
Got to say that since leaving the Police, Ive not looked back.
Many of my old colleagues, I still keep in touch with and they too are trying to dig an escape route. Such a shame really.
Anyway, I'm glad I popped in.
Take care out there
Eddie

Hi Eddie,
Nice to hear from you, and that you're still "in training."

Nice to hear from you Eddie. Glad things are working out in the new job.
Never mind being drained by the job some days, you wait until you have two sprogs running rings round you.
All the very best,
Graham

Great to hear you're doing well. I'm very envious, as a teacher who is at his limit of being humiliated, belittled and undervalued with nothing to show for it but high blood pressure, anxiety and stress, I too have been looking for an escape route for some time now. Trouble is, with a family to support, going back into education to re-train, or start at the bottom of another career is financially impossible... Never mind, I'm glad you're living the dream
Re: A quick Hello!
Absolutely, although there is banter on the railways. Its not the same.Vancouver wrote:Don't you miss the banter?
Work with a great bunch but only really see them during breaks as when your out there driving you only have yourself for company.
So its quite a lonely job in that respect.
I often worked alone in the Police, and I don't mind that whatsoever.
Its nice having people to talk to and its also nice to be alone so you can think and make your own decisions.
Swings and roundabouts really.
Swanoir,
I feel for you matey. There are train drivers I work with who've come from all walks of life.
Everything you could imagine, schoolteachers, firefighters, military and even pilots!
I took a great big gamble 18 months ago. I was petrified I'd made the wrong decision, especially with a family to support.
The training salary was certainly a struggle to keep afloat. Luckily I had some savings to assist us when financial matters got sticky.
Thankfully now 18 months on, I'm qualified, had a good pay rise and I've not looked back.
My advice is that if you ever see an opportunity, take it, before someone else does.
Good luck

Hi Eddie,
Really pleased to hear that you are now qualified on trains and enjoying your job and also back here when you can make it.
I don't get here as often as I would like so the time I have on-line at the library is soon spent as I catch up on all the news.
BTW what are you driving a milk train or express?
Kind regards
Nigel
