Runway/taxiway markings

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the recent history of runway/taxiway markings. I'm especially interested in standard markings in the UK and Europe in the period 1950-1970 and when such markings became standardised. It's very difficult to find any definitive information. Help would be much appreciated!
