FS9 and Windows 10

Post by Filonian »

Does anyone have FS9 running successfully in windows 10?

Mine was OK until today, then when I fired it up again - got the title page then a black screen, large cursor and nowt else.

I think I might have read somewhere that a Windows update might be responsible for it Graham. Could have been a thread over at Simouthouse *-)

Just fired my laptop up & AOK. What you are describing is the default W10 FS9 setting - so press ALT+ENTER to get out of full screen mode. You will then probably have to retune your hardware screen size values. Otherwise delete fs9.cfg & let it rebuild.
Hope you get sorted

Thanks chaps. After a frustrating day with FS and waiting in until 18.20 for a parcel which has still not arrived I started from scratch and used your advice Keith.

Had one go with the update and no disc and all seems well so far.

The problem seemed to start after installing a new graphics card driver which didn't want to roll back. Installed one which worked OK before prior to the re-install of FS9.

Once again, many thanks.

These constant software issues are a pain in the ar**. They go on year after year and the greedy corporates never lift a finger to address them. I have a powerful pc system to run most graphic hungry monsters. Yet i still cannot get Windows 7 to run FSX or my favoured FS9. I've tried every available hint and tip but it no luck.
I boot up my old XP system and FS9 runs like a dream. FSX still runs 'pants' though. I dread moving to Windows 10 :wall:

Graham,
Seems that the graphics driver could have been the problem as noted at FlightSim.
Glad you are on-stream again.

I love FS9 on Win10.1. It runs faster and smoother than it ever did on XP or Win 7. On my low end Lenova desktop i5, I regularly get 60 fps with the sliders full right and 100% traffic. The one quirk is that this is in windowed mode. In full screen mode it slows to 25-30 fps and both processor and GPU temps rise 30% or more. Win 7 would not run FS9 in full screen mode at all.
