Re: Ladies and Gentlemen - the BBC has finally cracked
You'd think so but I had to explain the voting process to a relative who has only voted once (when she was 18) and hasn't voted in the three elections since. I did tear a strip off her for not voting, reminding her of the Suffragettes and the thousands who died in the last war to enable us to contin...

Re: Continental/United merger
It'll be interesting to see what if any impact this has on Continental's UK regional transatlantic services such as Birmingham (Bristol has already gone) and Edinburgh. Conti seemed to be one airline willing to break the London-centric obsession of most transatlantic providers including of course ou...

Re: Llandedr....some cool pics
I can recommend Wendy Mill's book "Target Rolling" mentioned in the discussion, I got a copy of it (signed!) from Harlech Post Office, gives the human side of the airfield as well as it's history and has some wonderful pics. My GP was the last medical officer at the base according to Wendy...

Aiming for Llanbedr? That would really hack off the Snowdonia Society who have stalled the commercial re-opening of the airfield.GHD wrote:GHD wrote:Looks like CIVT has diverted to Shannon.

Re: Volcanic Ash disrupting flights!!
I think the problem is it's on it's way, the winds are swinging round to a north-westerly and certainly the skies here on the Welsh coast have become milkier over the past few hours which would seem to suggest the high-level dust is starting to reach us. Certainly unprecedented, but given what has h...

Re: BA/Iberia
Well I suppose they'd struggle to market an airline called Baberia (sounds like a mums and toddlers airline) although I suppose they could dust off trendy 1970's fashion house Biba as a name!

Re: 6201 - Princess Elizabeth
Went behind Lizzie a couple of weeks ago down the West Coast from Crewe to Kensington Olympia, and returned from Euston to Crewe, apparently the first time 6201 had been out of Euston since 1962 and a rare example of a steam excursion leaving Euston, especially since the Virgin high-frequency timet...

Re: Air Atlantique
Yup.. the will wasn't there at AA. Certain parts of the company were hemorrhaging money (not helped by the desire of the owner to keep buying aircraft) and my take on the situation was that the new rules were used as a good excuse to cease 'Classic' operations. I may be wrong but that's how I remem...

Re: Air Atlantique
The Classic Flight stopped the DC3 flights because new rules came in mandating full evacuation equipment for all aircraft greater than 29 seats (I think that was the number) which would have meant adapting the aircraft to have aisle lighting and evacuation slides. At least that's what I recall them ...
